The Thieblots, co-owners of the Quarry Gardens, will lead this tour. In the Visitor Center, Armand will introduce the QGs project and the history of soapstone mining. Bernice will lead a walk along the main trail around the quarries.
Among the plant communities, look for Black cohosh, Thimbleweed, False indigo, Goat’s beard, Butterflyweed, New Jersey tea, Spadderdock, Eastern prickly pear, Foxglove beardtongue, four species of Mountainmint, Swamp rose, Purple-flowering raspberry, Carolina wild petunia, Black snakeroot, Lizard’s tail, Early goldenrod, and many others. With more than 650 native species, surely something will be in bloom!
In view of Covid concerns, participants may opt out of the indoor portion. Mask-wearing will be optional.
Bring a lunch and enjoy it in the picnic pavilion.
